into the fray

Hi, and welcome!

It’s taken me way longer than it should’ve to get this thing off the ground. I’ve held seemingly endless debates with myself about naming, subject matter, domain name, content of the first post, design style, etc (all to end up with this…yeah, yeah, I know). You’d have thought it was just procrastination, which it sort of was, but it’s also the desire to not put this out into the world until it was exactly how I wanted it.

The problem is that it’s never going to be perfect anyways, and in waiting I feel like I’ve missed some opportunities. There were debates I should’ve been participating in, points of view I should’ve been putting across, things I should’ve been learning, people I should’ve been meeting. And I suppose this is the “practice what you preach” lesson to be learnt, as isn’t this often what many of us are trying to convince clients of? i.e. don’t worry about getting everything right, and definitely don’t try waiting until all variables are known and you’re sure what you’re doing is safe and foolproof, because it’ll never happen, and you’ll have lost all the momentum and experience in the meantime. The most important thing is to come up with ideas about what might work and get out there and experiment. Make sure you learn from the experiments and have rationale for what you’re trying, but if you’re not out there trying things, you’re not learning.

Or as the Spanish proverb goes, “It is not the same to talk of bulls as to be in the bullring.”

But whatever, we’re off and running now! Drop me a line via the contact form or in the comments if you want to say hi.
